Boo-Nanas: A Healthy Halloween Treat

I've made these cute and delicious ghosts many times over the years for my children and their friends or classmates and they are a huge hit every single time no matter how old they get. The recipe and process are also super simple and I always have the ingredients on hand so there is no special shopping trip required to make these. Give them a try and let me know if they are a hit in your house too.

Boo-Nanas with Lemon Essential Oil

Servings: 8 | Time: 15 minutes active; 30 minutes inactive | Difficulty: Easy

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 bananas

  • 8 popsicle sticks

  • 1 cup plain yogurt

  • 1 drop of Lemon essential oil

  • 16 mini chocolate chips

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Peel bananas, and cut them in half. Then cut the halves lengthwise.

  2. Carefully stick a popsicle stick (or cake-pop stick) in each banana, and then lay the bananas on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. You can also use waxed paper.

  3. Place the cookie sheet with bananas in the freezer for about 30 minutes to firm up.

  4. Then mix together the yogurt and lemon essential oil in a tall glass or 2-cup measuring container. A tall container makes dipping the bananas easier.

  5. Remove the bananas from the freezer, and dip each of them in the glass of yogurt––turning until fully coated.

  6. Return the bananas to the waxed paper, laying them on their backs, and place two mini chocolate chips near the top of each banana for eyes.

  7. Once all of the bananas are done, return them to the freezer until ready to serve.

Enjoy these darling boo-nanas as a delicious and healthy frozen Halloween treat!

Pro Tips:

1. Use a high-fat content yogurt so that the yogurt coasts the bananas well.

2. You can use any flavour of yogurt you desire; just choose one that is white in color.

3. Alterative essential oil flavouring ideas to use; Vanilla, Lemon, Wild Orange or Cardamom and Vanilla is yummy too.

4. Try substituting the yogurt with melted white chocolate if you desire a sweeter treat.

5. I prefer to use cake pop sticks over popsicle sticks and they can be found in the baking aisle of most grocery stores.

Let me know how it goes and of course, enjoy!
